Ryan, you made the right decision… and I like it too!
This is great news for Ryan and Arkansas. I know I’ve been critical of him lately but was just frustrated not seeing better performance against strong defences. i hope his whole heart is in this decision and he developes his full potential as a player/student and as a man. I wish the best Ryan!
No way he was ready for the NFL. His only future there was with a clipboard. Which team was going to give him a 5 year contract when it would take 2 or 3 years to see if you could get him ready to play? His only place was here.
We had good, solid, balanced game plans in all of our wins. Half of those were “must” wins. DJ saw the ball alot. In big games it was all quick strike. I hope that was intentional, that they had no faith in the line or sustained drives because I think alot of fans expected the other game plan. I know I did.
I’ll get over that by July. I would love to hear them address it though.
With this decision, I truly hope the ‘fans’ that were wanting Wilson to replace Mallett in some games will get behind Mallett in good times and bad next year. He is our best chance to contend for the West next year – and it will be tough will all that Bama has coming back. Wilson will have his chance in 2011, and after 2 full years in the system, he’ll be a great QB for us.
I can’t imagine DJ stays. There is no guarantee he will be used more in our offense, and he would be a good draft pick for a few NFL teams out there. I hope I’m wrong.
Anyone who wanted to Mallett to leave has lost their damn mind. Is there room for growth? Absolutely, but one could make a pretty strong case that he is the best QB we’ve had in the last 30 years. Now I think Wilson and Mitchell have promise but appreciate what we have today which is a damn site better than anything else we’ve had recently. I hope DJ stays but I think Chris Gragg will end up being a beast at that position. Now we just need some recruits to commit. That is an area I’m concerned about. I wish we’d either make recruiting Tim Horton’s full-time gig or let him go to RB coach full-time and bring in someone. We’ve got to do better.
EDSBS says, “Treebeard like home. Arkansas’ favorite Ent/qb is officially staying at Arkansas, meaning the Razorbacks will be officially horrifying on offense next year, and not in the way you’d like them to be as an opponent”. From such an imminent source, we have a right to expect to be talking a Petrino-led Dynasty next year this time. This assumes we put a Fayettenam slapdown on all who dare play the Hogs within our borders and we bully-boy UGA and War Eagle.
I’m glad Mallett stays if. . .Petrino works to develop a balanced offense. If he’s just gonna rely on Mallett’s arm and the deep ball, the Hogs won’t win any more games than they did last fall. Arkansas has some fine running backs that were underutilized this season. And then there was DJ Williams who was grossly misused, IMO. Will he bolt? Couldn’t blame him.
It’s exciting to ponder the possibilities for the offense next season, possibly the best in the country. But unless the defense continues to develop it’s gonna be more heartbreak and gnashing of teeth for Razorbloggers in oh-ten.
Great news indeed. ESPN has taken notice…Mark Schlabach thinks Mallett’s return lands Hogs #16 in his stab at a Top 25 pre-season poll.

Agree with Swineherd. The season just ended and expectations are out of control. Since we’re going to be so good next year with Mallett, I guess that means we’ll win our first SEC road game in two years. And, maybe we’ll improve that 0-13 third down strategy we showed off in the Liberty Bowl. Many good athletes are being under-utilized on offense. D.J. should leave if he wants to catch passes. What a pity. I’m not nearly as high on Petrino as I once was. And, I hope Mallett doesn’t turn out to have a million dollar arm and a ten cent brain. Pound away….
This team’s greatness next season will depend on the defense and STs play more than anything. I believe we’ll be looking at about a 9-3 regular season record, with a chance to play in either the Capitol One or Cotton Bowl game.
