Another season…another year of weekly predictions. It’s always a fun thing for us during game week to throw out our guesses and then see what you think.
Once again this year we’ve created a limited run of RazorBloggers Network t-shirts for our weekly “grand prize” winner. And we have to say…this year’s shirt is the best we’ve ever designed. More on that soon…for now, here are the contest rules:
- The winning entry must pick the winning team and have the smallest combined deviation from each team’s final score. For example, if the Hogs beat their opponent 20-14, and your prediction was Hogs 21-17, your deviation would be 1 + 3 = 4.
- Any ties will be broken by a random drawing.
- The weekly winner will be contacted via e-mail for a shipping address and t-shirt size. (So make sure to fill out the e-mail address box in the comment form!)
Also…congratulations to longtime reader I Like Pigs for the closest bowl game prediction last time of 31-17. His quote: “It’s supposed to be cold and wet and the layoff won’t help our passing game.” Pretty spot-on prediction, ILP. And we can confirm one thing firsthand: it was damn cold in Memphis on January 2nd.
So here we go:
Walking on Sunshine: While the Golden Eagles should provide little opposition, the Hogs manage to hold down the score by playing student managers and trainers the whole second half. The running game gets some much needed work as Coach Petrino stays ‘vanilla’…much to the chagrin of Georgia and Alabama. TTU scores a cheap one late. Arkansas 49, Tennessee Tech 7.
HogBaller: The Razorback “D” has something to prove this season, and they make a statement with a shutout in game 1. The offense gets off to a fast start and showcases the many weapons in Coach Petrino’s arsenal. In the end, the backups see plenty of action, and this one is safely in hand by halftime. However, the kicking game looks eerily similar to last year. Arkansas 55, Tennessee Tech 0.
HogBlogger: Hogs are ready to practice against someone for real. Arkansas 42, Tennessee Tech 7.
TipsterHog: “For 100 years we’ve been ‘Hog Wild.’ And Saturday we continue the tradition. We are…Arkansas Razorbacks.“ Arkansas 45, Tennessee Tech 3.
Leave a comment with your name, e-mail address and pick. And feel free to add your own take like “Huntin’ season starts a little earlier this year” or “Get ready. Hogs roll.”

Hogs win 51-12 with a rocking crowd at Razorback Stadium. Defensive does it's job early and often with no plays longer than 30 yards (including kick returns)!
Pigs fly; Eagles flop. Everybody plays, and plays. Hogs 60; Birds 3.
PS: I'm glad this is finally about to get underway. You guys have been driving me crazy with your anxiety. For eight (8) months you have been like kindergarten kids on Christmas Eve. Thank goodness you will now have some actual football to write about. . .which you do so well.
LOL…thanks, Roadhog. Truth be told…we've been driving ourselves a little crazy. Let's play some football!
Hogs 63-0. We get what we pay for.
63-7 hogs win
I'm seeing an overall strong showing, but "first game excitement" leads to a couple of early mistakes and slower than expected start. That said, Hogs 48, Tenn Tech 7.

Mallett and the starters sit down by half, but their backups are good enough to keep the show rolling while Petrino just lets the offense loose. The defense shows improvement.
Hogs 54
Tenn Tech 13
Hogs 45 – 21.
Why? Because nobody really knows for sure if our defense and special teams have improved, but everyone so far seems pretty certain in their predictions that we will completely shut town TTU.
65-17
The second team D will give up some points. I think TTU will keep their first team offense in the game regardless of the score to get some experience.

About time for some Hog Ball! Glad it's finally here!

Hope you're not betting the familly farm on that score. Where can I find you? I have some serious money.
True story—-in 1975 I was working in middle Tennessee and CB radios were the rage that i-phones are today. I was headed back home from Cookeville (home of Tennessee Tech) to Hendersonville, TN, and had just entered I-40 west bound, when I heard a bunch of CB chatter about pork chops on the road. A hog truck had turned over in the median and some major, huge hogs were running all over the place, State Troopers and others were in pursuit, but not making much progress. It was absolutely hilarious——–just like Saturday night to come: Hogs run (and pass) all over the place and the Troopers from Tennessee are utterly frustrated:

To All at HogBloggers.Com thank you for a great job covering the Razorbacks during the off season. You all did a wonderful job. Although I may not have agreed with everything you kept us informed and thinking. You guys are the best…….no joke
Thanks Mike. The site is what it is because of great commentary by great fans like you. Go Hogs!
Years ago, I made a six-foot razorback out of plywood, painted, sealed and awesome and displayed it in my front yard…my wife says it is obnoxious, especially since we live in Alabama!!! Oh well…suck it neighbors and Whooo Pig Sooie!

bk2665,
How many times has your plywood Razorback been egged, rocked, shot at, or beaten with a ball bat. (lols)
Actually, we only had one incident…some kids were "admiring" it up close, but no damage. I think when the Hogs start breaking some hearts of Bama and Auburn fans, we might see some egg action!!!
Hogs record a shutout in season opener. Razorbacks – 65, Widdle burdies – 0.
D-line and LBs are dominant. 'Nough said.

I repeat: Hope you're not betting the family farm on that score. Where can I find you? I have some serious money for that spread. The game is being played at War Memorial not Cookesville. If you've never been an athlete or an entertainer, you can't imagine the energy and the high you get from the roar of the crowd. Anything can happen but you and Stanz's predictions are about as unrealistic as Wally's prediction that only 3 points will be scored in the NWU-Vandy game. Wally didn't look at last year's NWU stats (NWU lost its QB but the offense will remain the same, and Vandy is an SEC team, and like it or not, SEC teams have a target on their backs.) There are a lot of hungry Hog players dying to see action. The only problems are overconfidence and perhaps trying too hard. This will be more serious with LA-Monroe, but not with T Tech. (Note, insofar as we know at this point, Minnesota is not UA -or near it- but it is a Big 10 team and they had their hands full with Middle Tennesee). I don't see Petrino keeping the score down or the score close. He's got a 17 national ranking to protect. I do like Wally's prediction though, 60-3. (or 60-6 or 60-9). Robinson wil challenge his defense, no matter whose on the field, to keep T. Tech out of the end zone.
doggy Jim, as Bob Berry, the long=standing announcer of OU games would say, "Check that!" Tomorrow's venue is DWRRS—–aka Razorback Stadium.

This should be a lot of fun unless you are rooting for Tenn Tech. We get the 1st view of the "Shot" and our new found running game. If the defense doesn't look good early, then we'll know we haven't progressed as far as advertised.
I'll go out on a limb and say the score at halftime is 42-3.
Hogs — 63
Tenn Tech — 13
42-3 at halftime sounds about right, Waldron.
T Towner: You're right. I was thinking a week ahead at War Memorial which is where I'll be. Just means that there will be about 20,000 or more fans screaming for the Hogs. Thanks for the correction. Must have been a brain freeze. Just like to add, I think that Wally gets his predictions from the betting line that he gets before the paper goes to print. That explains his NWU-Vandy prediction of 3-0. The line is NWU by 3. But his upset prediction is a bit odd, NC over LSU given the number of suspensions tht NC has. And that the game is at a presumably neutral site. But again, thanks T man for the correction.

Hope to see something from the D…
Here's a guess that the Hogs come out firing on all cylinders. Both the offense and the defense have something to prove.
